St. Peter’s, Shelley was the setting for the St. Valentine’s Day service “Celebrating Love” which was also the end of National Marriage Week. However, we celebrated not only marriage and romantic love as our rector, Susan Cooper, explained that the Greeks actually had four words for love. The service reflected each of these elements with the lighting of candles with related words, readings and hymns.
We listened to Paul’s letter on the gift of love in 1 Corinthians 13 and asked for God’s forgiveness when we have so often fallen short. After a time of prayer we exchanged the Peace with one another and sang “Come Down O Love Divine”.

As always at St Peter’s, the service finished with refreshments, tea and home-made cakes.
The next service at St Peter’s is on 21st March at 3 p.m. and is entitled ‘Reconciliation’.
